Running events

A look at some of the running events on my block...

During one of the events, I had to get a shot of this couple -- they were running the race holding hands!

...And then the following year, there they were again!  (and she even wore the same shirt)

Birdwatching on my block

Although my block has some very small yards (the bldg across the street has a 2-foot front yard and I have about 15 feet), we have a few good birdwatching opportunities...

Here's a bluejay visiting a neighbor's urn.

And this little male sparrow was chirping his heart out looking for a mate, even with something in his mouth.

And every once in a while a pigeon (or two) makes it way out east to my block.

Baby robins from early spring 2011.

About a week later (their eyes are open):

Mother robin is not sure what to make of me.

Interesting people...

My block has its fair share of interesting people.

From those who do not think anyone is looking...

 To those who walk barefoot...

To those who will plea for change from a moving vehicle...

To those who use hover-rounds...

To those who leap into their jobs...

To those who are prepared for battle...

To those who eat on the job...

To those who are avid smokers...

To those who are very, very patient...

To those who are always ready for a chance encounter...

To be followed by another...

To those who are appropriately dressed for their "walk of shame"...

To those who like to talk about their bikes...

Traffic on my block

Twice a week the building across the street gets a major food delivery...

This is something you don't see on Madison everyday...

Maybe he's lost...

Mississippi River canoeing anyone?

Just stay home...

A fixture on Madison for many decades: the dairy truck...

MATA utilizes one bus route that carries with it the old streetcar route numbering: Route 2...

Perhaps the furthest from downtown this horse has been in a while...

Urban Dare comes to Memphis

In a previous post, I covered the fact that many folks take pictures of the facade of the Bar-B-Q Shop.  This post is dedicated to the time Urban Dare came to Memphis (go to urbandare.com for details on this program).  Taking a photo of your team in front of the best barbeque restaurant in Memphis was apparently one of the critical parts of the race.

And this team hailed down a car and hitchhiked.  I think this may have been against the rules because opponents immediately yelled "cheater" right about when I took this shot.
